Swedish news is sometimes hard to come by. Lundagard’s international edition gives you a short summary of local and regional news every Friday.

Malmö police will step up their toughness during Saturday’s protest against major banks at Gustav Adolfs Torg. The protesters intend to demonstrate their solidarity with the “Occupy Wall Street” movement currently going on in New York City.

International credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s awarded Lunds municipality with its highest credit rating.  Low unemployment, high education levels, and the presence of multiple global companies were among the criteria met by the city.

Nearly 20 percent of Lund’s secondary school students experience stress to an unhealthy degree.  One school, Spyken, now offers a course called “Stressa lagom”, which hopes to help students better manage their stress.

Recent statistics show that 25 percent of Malmö’s youth are overweight or obese, up from only 5 percent twenty years ago. This trend is considered so serious, the city has developed a community-wide plan which hopes to reduce the rate by half before 2016.

Southwestern Skåne’s pension fund has shrunk by over 100 million kronor in value this year.  The main reason is poor-performing stocks, which much of these funds are invested in by the municipalities.
