On Saturday, two nollning events took place in Lund. One was organized by the LTH and has a long tradition. The newer one, organized by the Social science department took place the first time.

Each year, Lund is getting coloured. The new students at LTH in their colourful overalls can be seen all over the city. On Saturday, a challenge between the departments of the LTH took place in Lundagård in front of the AF-Building.

There were a lot of students, music and dance. The aim was to challenge students from other departments in several games by, for example, building catapults, throwing waterfilled balloons, or racing with self-made cars. Every year, the theme of the event changes and so do the requisites used.

The preparations for this huge event started already in the spring and were performed by students.

Fredrik from the department of social science had the idea for a similar event during Christmas.

– I wanted to create an opportunity for the students of the department of social science to get know each other.

So he began to organize the “slaget om samvetet” (fight of conscience) at St. Hans Backar. This “fight” consists in five games as “Simon says”, football, brännboll, “raden” (games where you have to row up in a certain order) and “man and word”, a game where the groups had to form words with their bodies.

The games were obligatory for the students, 600 should have come. However, there were few who came. The organizer was disappointed, but they looked forward to next year.

The aim of both events was to get people together and to have fun, but the way of doing it was quite different.

At Lundagård, there was loud music. It was crowded and there were a lot of people wearing special uniforms or overalls.

By comparison, the event at St. Hans Backar was smaller and the games were more important. But in the end the most important thing of having fun and getting people to know eachother was fulfilled at both events.
