Smålands holds an internationally friendly café for fika and a chat on International Women’s Day.
Tuesday, March 8th is the 100th annual International Women’s Day, celebrating women’s achievements and the importance of gender equality. Smålands nation invites everyone to fika at its Ronja Café, starting at 19:00, and discuss issues connected with the holiday’s theme – particularly, the successes and failures of the Women’s Rights Movement.
Open space
Anna Andrusiewicz, one of the coordinators of Ronja, hopes Tuesday’s event will bring in new members. “Ronja Café is like an open space for critical discourse — everyone can join, either to participate in workshops, discussions, etc., or organize one yourself.” The café is held every Tuesday at 19:00, and the dialogue focuses on gender, queer, and feminist issues.
Many international students
Ronja is very internationally friendly, and is actually run mainly by international students. This creates a unique space for conversation among people with different backgrounds. “Since Lund is a destination for international students, it’s great to finally overcome national/ethnic/cultural divisions.”
Big event at Stortorget
Tuesday’s café follows a larger event at Stortorget (the main square downtown) which starts at 17:30. Nine organizations in Lund will present speakers and music on the theme of Worldwide Gender Equality, which should give you food for thought before heading over to Ronja Café.
“I think it’s our obligation to provide a further chance to hang out with people who are like-minded, therefore we would like to invite everyone and our intention is to stimulate discussion about change.”
