The Association of Foreign Affairs in Lund has opened their spring schedule with an even clearer focus on international students.
Azadeh Alian, responsible for communications within the organization, explains that UPF has spent the last couple of years opening their approach more towards international students. “In my personal opinion, our organization has been paying more attention to international students than even some nations and student unions. My hope is that they too will change with time,” says Alian.
One of the novelties for this semester is that the film screenings will contain English subtitles as opposed to last semester’s Swedish language subtitles.
LGBT Focus Day
UPF’s main event over April, “LGBT Focus Day” meant to raise awareness about issues affecting gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders, will be held completely in English.
This all-day event will include lectures, panel debates, and movies focused on these issues, which generally become overlooked on world debate forums, according to the Association of Foreign Affairs.
Muslim hiphop
The organization will also be holding a number of other events, such as a discussion on Israeli foreign policy under the American conservative right, and a lecture describing “Muslim hiphop and punk.”
The organization is aiming to stay open to international students by putting up more panels and discussions in English. “Currently, the Association of Foreign Affairs boasts a total of 900 members, among whom we have many international students,” says Azadeh Alian. According to Alian, the association is “about organizing students who are interested in the world and to help them reach their goals.”
