It’s the night of the self-proclaimed biggest international party in Lund, and there are 500 students on the guest list. The event can host yet another hundred, and the organizers expect it to sell out.
The Wild Huge International Party, or WHIP, takes places tonight at Kårhuset.
The party functions as a social event and a fundraiser for BEST Lund, the local chapter of the Board of European Students for Technology.
“We are an international organization all over Europe,” said BEST Lund member David Kindstrand. “We are interested in making the international students have a good time in Lund.”
The party also generates profit for BEST Lund, which the group uses to sponsor other events, such as engineering competitions.
A party for all
The WHIP is targeted to Lund’s international students and mentors, but is also open to Swedish students and students from outside of the university, if they are on a specific guest list.
“A lot of international students have friends here in Lund who come and visit them,” Kindstrand said.
BEST Lund usually orchestrates this party once a semester. This is the first year it is being held in Kårhuset, because the previous location is closed for remodeling.
“This year we have a capacity of 300 more people,” Kindstrand said.
A party engineered by engineers
BEST Lund, an organization for LTH students, has about 20 active members. They organize Europe’s largest engineering competition and also offer courses for LTH students to take over the summer or in other countries.
One reason they throw such a huge party is that the group is made up of only men, Kindstrand said.
“If you only had a party for engineers, it wouldn’t be such a great party,” he said.
